  • 1 cup butter, softened Make sure your butter is softened but not melted.
  • 1 cup brown sugar Can substitute with white sugar but may result in less chewiness.
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs Beat in one at a time.
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour Do not overmix the dough once the flour is added.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Use good-quality chocolate chips.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the vanilla extract and eggs one at a time until well blended.
  • In another bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.

Baking

  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

These cookies are best served warm, perfect with a glass of cold milk or ice cream. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Can freeze for up to three months.
