Ingredients
  

For the Apple Mixture
  • 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for better flavor.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Adjust depending on the sweetness of the apples.
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
For the Topping
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced Can use a dairy-free alternative if desired.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt.
  4. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  5. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
Baking
  1. Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the topping is golden and apples are bubbling.
  2. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, and drizzle with caramel if desired. Store in the refrigerator for up to four days or freeze for up to three months.
