Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce Use low-sodium if preferred.
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar Honey can be used as a substitute.
  • 2 cloves minced garlic Freshly minced is best, but garlic powder works in a pinch.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated Ground ginger can also be used.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Avocado oil or another neutral oil can be a substitute.

Thickening Agent

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch For thickening the sauce when mixed with 2 tablespoons of water.

Preparation

  • Gather all the ingredients in a bowl.
  • Whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil.
  • If desired, mix cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry and add to the sauce.
  • Taste and adjust sweetness or saltiness according to preference.

Cooking

  • Heat the sauce in a skillet or wok with your choice of vegetables and/or proteins.
  • Toss everything until coated and heated through. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes to deepen flavors.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. Optionally, serve with rice or quinoa to soak up the sauce, and top with sesame seeds or sliced scallions.
