  • 4 ounces Your Choice of Spirit Options include whiskey, rum, or flavored liqueurs.

Toppings

  • 1 cup Mini Marshmallows Optional.
  • 1 cup Whipped Cream Optional.
  • ¼ cup Crushed Peppermint Optional.
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon Optional for garnish.

Preparation

  • Heat the milk or cream in a saucepan over medium heat, whisking gently to prevent burning.
  • Once it reaches a gentle simmer, mix in the cocoa powder and sugar, whisking continuously until smooth.
  • Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Pour in the spirit of choice (typically about 1 ounce, adjust to taste) and stir well.
  • Serve in mugs and top with marshmallows, whipped cream, or any desired toppings.

Notes

For an extra treat, toast marshmallows under a broiler for a golden finish. For parties, the hot chocolate can be made in a slow cooker on low heat for 2-3 hours.
