Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder Ensure it's fresh for the best rise.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Using cold butter helps create flaky layers.
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk Can substitute with milk mixed with vinegar or lemon juice.

Preparation

  • Preheat your cast iron pan in the oven.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in buttermilk until just combined.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently.

Baking

  • Roll out and cut dough into biscuits.
  • Place biscuits in the hot cast iron pan and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Serve hot with gravy, jam, or butter. To store, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months. To reheat, bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
