Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups milk Whole milk is recommended, but almond or oat milk can be used for a dairy-free version.
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate Can substitute with chocolate chips.
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk For a lighter version, sweetened coconut cream can be used.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon peppermint extract Adjust to taste for more mintiness.
  • 1 bag green marshmallows Regular marshmallows can be used, but the green ones add a festive touch.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In your slow cooker, combine 4 cups of milk, 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate, ½ cup of cocoa powder, 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and ½ teaspoon of peppermint extract. Stir gently until combined.
  • Cover the slow cooker and set it on low for 2-3 hours. Stir occasionally to help the chocolate melt and mix evenly.
  • During the last 30 minutes, add in your green marshmallows, or save them to top each cup later for a fun presentation.
  • Before serving, taste and adjust for sweetness. Add more peppermint extract if desired.
  • Ladle the hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream, additional marshmallows, or chocolate shavings as a perfect finishing touch.

Notes

Stir occasionally to prevent chocolate from settling and burning. Use 'keep warm' setting for longer gatherings. For a thicker consistency, add more condensed milk or reduce milk slightly.
