Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Fresh or frozen shrimp, peeled and deveined Use shrimp cocktail if you're in a pinch.
  • 3 tbsp Oyster sauce Can be complemented with a splash of fish sauce.
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce Use gluten-free tamari for a gluten-free option.
  • 3 cloves Minced garlic Adjust to taste.
  • 1 tbsp Minced ginger Adjust to taste.
  • 1-2 tbsp Cooking oil (vegetable, canola, or sesame) Choose oil based on preference.

Optional Ingredients

  • 2 stalks Green onions For garnish.
  • 1 cup Bell peppers or snap peas For added flavor and texture.

Instructions

Preparation

  • If using frozen shrimp, thaw them by placing them in a bowl under cold running water for a few minutes. Pat them dry with a paper towel to avoid excess moisture.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet or wok, heat 1-2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers but doesn’t smoke.
  • Add the minced garlic and ginger to the hot oil, sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
  • Toss in the shrimp and cook for about 2-3 minutes until they turn pink and opaque.
  • Pour in the oyster sauce and soy sauce, stirring well to coat the shrimp evenly. Let it simmer for another 1-2 minutes.
  • If adding vegetables, toss them in now and stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until just tender but still vibrant.
  • Remove from heat and garnish with green onions if desired. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

Keep your shrimp moving while they cook to ensure even heating and prevent sticking. Marinate shrimp in the sauces for 15-20 minutes for enhanced flavor.
