Fresh Vegetables

  • 2 cups Shredded lettuce Spinach or mixed greens can be substituted
  • 1 cup Chopped tomatoes Roasted red peppers can be used instead
  • 1 cup Shredded cheese Can substitute with vegan cheese or cheese alternatives
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped jalapeƱos Can use bell peppers or mild pepper alternatives

Toppings

  • 1 cup Sour cream Greek yogurt or a dairy-free option can be used
  • 1 cup Salsa Pico de gallo or guacamole can be substituted

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef (or turkey) until fully cooked. Use taco seasoning to add flavor, adjusting the spice level to your preference.
  • On a large platter or bowl, start with a layer of tortilla chips.
  • Layer the ingredients by adding the ground meat, followed by the shredded lettuce.
  • Sprinkle chopped tomatoes on top and then add a layer of shredded cheese.
  • Dollop sour cream across the top and add salsa.
  • Finish with a sprinkle of jalapeƱos for extra heat, if desired.
  • Serve immediately to preserve the crunchiness of the chips.

Notes

Introduce fresh lime juice and chopped cilantro for an added zing. For added texture, include some black olives or refried beans.
