  • 1 head Lettuce (Iceberg or Romaine) Chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 can Refried Beans Canned or homemade
  • 1 lb Ground Beef or Turkey Seasoned with taco spices
  • 1 large Avocado Or guacamole for creaminess
  • 1 cup Tomatoes or Salsa Fresh diced tomatoes or jarred salsa
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese Or a Mexican cheese blend
  • 1 cup Sour Cream Or Greek yogurt for a lighter option
  • 2 cups Tortilla Chips Crushed for topping

Preparation

  • Wash and chop the lettuce into bite-sized pieces and place it at the bottom of a large serving bowl.
  • Spread a generous layer of refried beans over the lettuce.
  • Cook ground beef or turkey in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Season with taco spices and let cool slightly.
  • Scoop the seasoned meat over the beans, spreading it evenly.
  • Add a layer of sliced avocado or guacamole.
  • Top with diced tomatoes or salsa.
  • Sprinkle with shredded cheese.
  • Dollop sour cream or Greek yogurt on top and finish with crushed tortilla chips.

Notes

Prepare layers in advance and assemble just before serving to maintain freshness. Keep tortilla chips separate if making ahead to prevent sogginess.
