Ingredients

For the Salisbury Steak
  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
For the Garlic Mashed Potatoes
  • 4 large potatoes
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
For the Gravy
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined and form into patties.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the patties until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes on each side. Set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and onions. Sauté until softened, around 5 minutes.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and bring it to a simmer.
  5. Return the cooked patties to the skillet, allowing them to soak up the gravy flavors for a few minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, in a pot, boil the potatoes and garlic until tender. Drain and mash them with milk, butter, salt, and pepper until creamy.
Serving
  1. Plate the Salisbury steak on the garlic mashed potatoes, finishing with a generous drizzle of the mushroom & onion gravy.

Notes

Maximize comfort food appeal by sprinkling fresh parsley on top for color. Pair with steamed green beans or salad for balance.
