For the Salisbury Steaks
  • 1.5 pounds ground beef Lean ground beef recommended for a healthier option.
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 piece egg, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper To taste
For the Gravy
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For cooking the patties.
  • Mushrooms Sliced, quantity based on preference.
  • Onions Sliced, quantity based on preference.
  • Beef broth Amount based on desired gravy consistency.
For the Garlic Mashed Potatoes
  • Potatoes For mashing, quantity based on serving size.
  • Butter For mashing.
  • Milk For mashing.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown the patties on both sides.
Gravy
  1. In the same skillet, sauté sliced mushrooms and onions until soft, then add beef broth and simmer.
Mashed Potatoes
  1. Cook potatoes in boiling water until soft, then mash with butter and milk.
Serving
  1. Serve Salisbury steaks with garlic mashed potatoes and pour the mushroom & onion gravy over the top.

Notes

Serve with a side of steamed green vegetables or a fresh garden salad. Warm crusty bread is a great addition to soak up the gravy. A dollop of sour cream on the mashed potatoes can elevate the flavor.
