Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, salt, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Gradually add the flour to the yeast mixture, mixing thoroughly to achieve a smooth, elastic batter.
- Cover the bowl with a cloth or plastic wrap and place it in a warm spot. Let the dough rise for 1 to 2 hours until it doubles in size.
Frying
- Fill a deep saucepan with vegetable oil, about 3 inches deep. Heat the oil over low heat.
- Pinch off small portions of the risen batter and drop them into hot oil. Fry until golden brown on one side (about 2-3 minutes), then flip to brown the other side.
- Remove the puff puffs using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Dust the warm puff puffs with table sugar or powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
Puff puffs can be served warm, dusted with powdered sugar or paired with honey. Store in an airtight container after cooling completely.
