  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
  • 1 whole bay leaf Remove before serving.

Tomato Base

  • 1 15-ounce can crushed tomato puree
  • 1/4 cup filtered water

Sweet and Tart

  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar Adjust based on tomato acidity.
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice Add more for a citrusy touch.
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Gather your ingredients.
  • Combine the crushed tomato puree, filtered water, and seasoning ingredients in a medium-sized pot.
  • Add the bay leaf, onion powder, thyme leaves, and other spices.

Cooking

  • Mix everything well and bring the pot to a simmer over medium heat.
  • Allow to simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove the bay leaf before serving or storing.
  • Taste your sauce and adjust seasonings to your liking.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Can be frozen for up to three months. For extra kick, increase red pepper flakes or add hot sauce. Fresh herbs can elevate flavor.
