  • 2 pieces frozen bananas Use ripe bananas for optimal sweetness and creaminess.
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter Can substitute with other nut butters like almond or cashew.
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder Adds rich chocolate flavor and high in antioxidants.
  • 1 scoop protein powder For extra protein; Greek yogurt can also be added.
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed or hemp hearts Optional addition for added fiber and nutrients.
  • 1 handful ice cubes Helps to chill and thicken the smoothie.
  • ½ cup milk of choice Soy, almond, dairy, coconut, etc.
  • 2 pieces dark chocolate peanut butter cups, roughly chopped Mix in to maintain chunks in the smoothie.

Preparation

  • In a high-speed blender, add the frozen bananas, peanut butter, cocoa powder, protein powder, ground flaxseed or hemp hearts (if using), ice cubes, and milk.
  • Blend on low speed until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  • Toss in the roughly chopped dark chocolate peanut butter cups and blend very briefly.
  • Pour the smoothie into glasses and enjoy slowly.

Notes

Pairs well with whole-grain toast topped with jam or mixed nuts. Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours; shake before consuming. Also can be frozen in ice cube trays for a quick treat.
