Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef to reduce fat.
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 10.5 oz can French onion soup
  • 1 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup Can substitute with cream of chicken.
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice, uncooked Can use brown rice, but cooking times will vary.
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese Adjust cheese to preference; sharp cheese adds tang.

Method

Cooking Instructions
  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  3. Stir in the French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, uncooked rice, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt.
  4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes or until the rice is tender and has absorbed the liquid.
  5. Stir in shredded cheese until melted. Serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding Worcestershire sauce or different vegetables like bell peppers. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
