  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure your butter is softened, not melted.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs Beat in the eggs one at a time.
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Feel free to experiment with different types of chocolate chips.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • In another bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually blend this into the creamed mixture.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden and centers are still soft.
  • Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

These cookies are best enjoyed warm from the oven. Serve with cold milk or ice cream. Consider adding a sprinkle of sea salt before baking for a sweet and salty twist. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
