Ingredients

For the Cake
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter At room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free blend
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon table salt
  • 4 large eggs Room temperature
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons powdered sugar For dusting before serving

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.
  2. Cream the unsalted butter and granulated sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy—this takes about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, ensuring to beat well after each addition to incorporate air for a fluffier cake.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract and milk until combined.
  5. Whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl.
  6. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring just until combined—overmixing can lead to a dense cake.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top for even baking.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  3. Dust with powdered sugar before serving to add a touch of elegance.
