For the Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons matcha powder Use high-quality matcha for best results
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Or use gluten-free flour as an alternative
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark) Or substitute with white chocolate chips for a sweeter option

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
  • In a small bowl, whisk the matcha powder with a tablespoon of hot water until it forms a paste.
  • Add this paste to the cookie dough mixture and beat until well incorporated.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  • Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place them onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

These cookies are best served slightly warm. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week, or freeze for up to three months.
