Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the elbow macaroni according to package directions; drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Once melted, whisk in the flour until you achieve a smooth paste.
- Gradually stir in the milk, continuing to mix until the sauce begins to thicken, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove the pan from heat and stir in 3 cups of cheddar cheese until it melts into a smooth sauce. Season with salt and pepper.
- Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni, thoroughly mixing.
- Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top and then add breadcrumbs.
Baking
- Bake in your preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
- Serve hot, and enjoy every cheesy bite!
