  • 1 lb ground Italian sausage Can substitute with turkey or chicken sausage
  • 1 cup bell peppers, sliced Use a mix of red, yellow, and green
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup sugar-free marinara sauce Ensure it is gluten-free if needed
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Can use other cheese types like cheddar or provolone
  • 1/2 cup black olives, sliced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes Optional for extra spice
  • to taste Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until browned and cooked through. Drain excess grease if needed.
  • Add bell peppers and mushrooms to the pan with the sausage and cook for 3–5 minutes until just tender.

Assembly

  • In oven-safe bowls or ramekins, layer the sausage and veggie mixture.
  • Spoon marinara sauce over the top, sprinkle with Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes (if using), then top with mozzarella cheese and black olives.

Baking

  • Place the bowls on a baking sheet and bake for 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Broil for an extra 1–2 minutes for golden brown tops (optional).

Serving

  • Top with fresh basil, let cool slightly, and serve hot from the oven.

Notes

This dish can be customized with various toppings. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
