Main Ingredients
  • 1 loaf Italian bread
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni Can be substituted with extra vegetables for a vegetarian option.
  • 1/2 cup diced bell peppers
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup diced onions

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cut the top off the loaf of Italian bread, creating a ‘lid’ that you can set aside.
  3. Hollow out the inside of the bread, leaving about a one-inch border.
  4. Spread marinara sauce evenly inside the hollowed loaf.
  5. Layer half the mozzarella cheese inside.
  6. Add the pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, Parmesan cheese, basil, black olives, and onions.
  7. Top it off with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  8. Replace the “lid” back on the loaf and wrap it in aluminum foil.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20 minutes, then unwrap and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  2. Allow it to cool slightly, slice, and serve.

Notes

Serve with a side of fresh salad or homemade garlic knots. Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place it back in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes.
