  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (28 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • optional Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions
 

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil to the pan.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Adjust seasoning if necessary and serve with pasta or use as desired.

Notes

For a smoother sauce, blend it with an immersion blender after cooking. You can also add vegetables like bell peppers or zucchini, or meat for a meat sauce.
