  • 1/2 cup Honey Pure, raw honey is preferred for health benefits and flavor. Maple syrup can be used as a vegan alternative.

Optional Add-ins

  • 1 tsp Ginger For a spicier kick and extra warmth.
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon Can be added for flavor enhancement.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Slice two medium-sized onions into thin rings or wedges to help release their natural juices.
  • In a saucepan, layer the sliced onions and drizzle with about half a cup of honey, coating the onion slices.
  • Heat the mixture on low for about an hour, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Once the onions have softened and the mixture thickens, strain the syrup into a clean bowl using a fine mesh sieve.
  • Press down with a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible.
  • Transfer the syrup into a sterilized jar or container and store in the refrigerator.

Notes

Store the syrup in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a month. Avoid cooking at high temperatures to prevent caramelization of the honey. Use herbs and spices sparingly during initial preparation.
