Ingredients
  

For the Syrup Base

  • 2-4 inches fresh ginger, peeled and grated Adjust to taste preference.
  • 2 cups water Add slowly to adjust consistency.
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice, freshly squeezed Fresh is preferred for best flavor.
  • 1 cup honey Raw, organic honey is recommended for maximum health benefits.

Preparation

  • Peel and grate about 2-4 inches of fresh ginger (or adjust as per your taste preference).
  • In a small saucepan, combine the grated ginger and 2 cups of water. Bring it to a gentle boil.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat and allow it to simmer for about 10-15 minutes.
  • After simmering, strain the mixture into a mixing bowl to remove the ginger pieces. Allow it to cool slightly.
  • Stir in the juice of 2 freshly squeezed lemons and add about 1 cup of honey to the warm ginger water, mixing until the honey dissolves completely.
  • Transfer your homemade cough syrup into a sterilized jar or bottle. It should keep in the refrigerator for about 2-3 weeks.
  • When needed, take a teaspoon of syrup whenever cough or throat irritation strikes.

Notes

For an extra zing, consider adding a pinch of cayenne pepper or turmeric. It can also be served alongside herbal tea.
