Ingredients
  

Filling

  • 2 cups fresh blackberries Choose ripe and sweet blackberries for the best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest Adds a lovely citrus flavor.

Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Remaining sugar for batter.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine blackberries, 1/2 cup sugar, and orange zest. Set aside.
  • In another bowl, mix flour, remaining sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until just combined.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into a greased baking dish and pour the blackberry mixture on top.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

Serve warm, ideally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months. You can also substitute blackberries with other berries like blueberries, raspberries, or cherries.
