  • 1 lb Lean Ground Beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1 Small Yellow Onion, diced
  • 4 Medium Russet Potatoes Peel and slice thinly.
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (optional) Optional for garnish.
  • 2 cups beef broth or water Ensure liquid covers potatoes.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and diced onion over medium heat until the meat is fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  • Peel and slice the potatoes thinly.

Assembly and Cooking

  • In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by the cooked beef mixture. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Add the remaining potato slices on top. Pour the beef broth or water over the entire dish, ensuring the liquid covers the potatoes.
  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the potatoes are tender.
  • If desired, uncover the dish, sprinkle shredded Cheddar cheese on top, and return to the oven for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serving

  • Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

For best results, serve with a crisp green salad or warm bread. Can be customized with different vegetables or cheeses according to preference.
