Ingredients

For the Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground turkey (preferably lean)
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs (regular or gluten-free)
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Olive oil for cooking (if pan-frying)

For the Tzatziki Sauce

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (plain, full-fat or low-fat)
  • 1/2 cucumber (grated and drained)
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, chopped onion, parsley, dried oregano, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything until well combined.

Cooking

  • Form the mixture into small balls. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs to the skillet and cook until they are brown and cooked through, about 12-15 minutes. Make sure to turn them occasionally for even cooking.

Making the Tzatziki Sauce

  • In another bowl, mix Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, lemon juice, fresh dill, olive oil, and salt and pepper. Stir well and set aside.

Serving

  • Plate the meatballs and drizzle with tzatziki sauce or serve it on the side for dipping.

Notes

For the best flavor, make the tzatziki sauce in advance and let it chill for at least 30 minutes in the fridge. You can enjoy them on their own, with a side of rice or a green salad.
