  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • to taste cream cheese frosting

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, spices, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
  • Add molasses, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla to the butter mixture, mixing until smooth.
  • Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let cool, then frost with cream cheese frosting.

Notes

Gingerbread Cake can be served warm or at room temperature. It also pairs well with a light salad to balance the sweetness.
