Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken.
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped Sauté until caramelized for added flavor.
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup beef broth Can substitute with vegetable broth for a vegetarian option.
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice, uncooked
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese Other cheese varieties like cheddar or Gruyere can be used.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and onion until the beef is cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef mixture with French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, rice, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt.
  • Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13 inch casserole dish.

Baking

  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
  • Remove foil, sprinkle cheese on top, and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. To reheat, place the casserole in the oven at 350°F until warmed through, or microwave individual portions until hot. You can freeze the unbaked casserole; wrap it tightly with plastic wrap and aluminum foil before freezing.
