Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion is translucent.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- In a separate pot, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the mozzarella, ricotta, and Parmesan cheeses.
Assembly and Baking
- In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce.
- Layer with 4 lasagna noodles, half of the cheese mixture, and more sauce. Repeat the layers, ending with a final layer of meat sauce on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use a variety of cheeses. Let the lasagna sit for a few minutes before cutting to help it hold its shape. Freezing individual portions can be a great way to enjoy lasagna later.
