  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the Filling
  • 1 cup pecans, roughly chopped
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup or corn syrup Feel free to substitute corn syrup for a different flavor profile.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8-inch (20x20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Pour in the melted butter and mix until well combined.
  3. Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan, ensuring an even layer. Bake for 12–15 minutes until lightly golden.
Making the Filling
  1. While the crust is baking, whisk together the eggs, brown sugar, maple syrup, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt in a separate bowl until the mixture is smooth.
  2. Fold in the chopped pecans and mix thoroughly.
Assembling the Bars
  1. Once the crust is baked, pour the pecan mixture over it and spread evenly.
  2. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25–30 minutes, or until the center is set and slightly firm to the touch.
  3. Allow the bars to cool completely before slicing into squares or rectangles.

Notes

Serve with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or a drizzle of chocolate sauce for an elevated dessert experience. Ensure to chill bars for cleaner slicing.
