Ingredients

For the Pie
  • 1 9-inch pie pre-bought pie dough for a 9-inch pie
  • 1 cup Grade A maple syrup high-quality
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 3 large eggs at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted and cooled
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Maple whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Unroll the pre-bought pie dough and press it gently into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim any excess dough from the edges, then crimp the edges neatly around the pie plate.
Making the Filling
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the Grade A maple syrup, heavy cream, light brown sugar, eggs, melted and cooled butter, vanilla extract, and salt until the mixture is smooth and thoroughly combined.
Baking
  1. Pour the filling evenly into the prepared pie crust.
  2. Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes.
  3. At around the 30-minute mark, check the crust; if the edges are browning too quickly, cover them with foil to prevent burning.
  4. The filling should be set but may still have a slight jiggle in the center.
  5. Remove the pie from the oven and place it on a wire rack to cool for at least 2 hours.
Serving
  1. Once cooled, slice the pie and serve as is or topped with a dollop of maple whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For a twist, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for extra warmth. Ensure your eggs are at room temperature for a smoother filling. Don't skip the cooling time—it’s crucial for the filling to set properly.
