Ingredients

For the Sauce

  • ½ cup nutritional yeast flakes Adds a cheesy, umami depth.
  • ¼ cup olive oil Provides a rich, smooth base.
  • 2 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce For a salty, savory element.
  • 2 tablespoons water To adjust the sauce’s consistency.
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup Introduces a subtle sweetness.
  • 1 clove garlic, halved Offers a pungent kick.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Place all the ingredients—nutritional yeast, olive oil, tamari or soy sauce, water, maple syrup, and garlic—into your blender or food processor.
  • Process the mixture until it reaches a smooth, creamy consistency, which usually takes about a minute.
  • If the sauce seems too thick, add a bit more water, a teaspoon at a time, blending after each addition until you achieve your desired texture.
  • Give the sauce a taste. If you prefer it sweeter, add a touch more maple syrup; for more saltiness, a dash more tamari.
  • Transfer the sauce into an airtight jar and refrigerate. It’s best used within four days to maintain its fresh flavor.

Notes

For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few drops of your favorite hot sauce. Use a high-speed blender for the smoothest texture. If you're avoiding soy, opt for coconut aminos instead of tamari or soy sauce. Strive for a balance of flavors; don’t hesitate to adjust the sweetness or saltiness according to your preference. Experiment with adding herbs like basil or cilantro for a fresh twist.
