  • 8 cups fresh apple cider
  • 3 apples, sliced (mix of Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Fuji)
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1 Peel of 1 orange (or lemon peel as a substitute)
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup or brown sugar (to taste)

Preparation

  • Wash and slice your apples, leaving the skin on.
  • Place the sliced apples in the bottom of your crockpot.
  • Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, orange peel, and your sweetener of choice.
  • Pour fresh apple cider over all the ingredients until the crockpot is nearly full.
  • Set the crockpot on low and let it simmer for about 6 to 8 hours.
  • Use a potato masher to gently crush the apples after cooking.
  • Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to create a clear cider.
  • Serve warm, garnished with a cinnamon stick or star anise if desired.

Notes

Pair with fresh baked goods or serve alongside a charcuterie board for a delightful experience. Store leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
