Danish Ingredients
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened Can substitute with mascarpone or ricotta.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 unit egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • to taste Powdered sugar, for dusting Optional

Method
 

Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Unfold the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into 4 equal squares.
  3. In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square.
  5. Fold the corners of each square towards the center over the cream cheese filling. Gently pinch the edges to seal.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and milk to create an egg wash.
  7. Brush the egg wash over the tops of the danishes to achieve a golden finish.
  8. Place the danishes on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.

Notes

Store uneaten danishes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Freeze baked danishes for up to a month, wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in a freezer-safe bag. Reheat in a toaster or conventional oven.
