Baking
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Unfold the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into 4 equal squares.
- In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
- Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square.
- Fold the corners of each square towards the center over the cream cheese filling. Gently pinch the edges to seal.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and milk to create an egg wash.
- Brush the egg wash over the tops of the danishes to achieve a golden finish.
- Place the danishes on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
Notes
Store uneaten danishes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Freeze baked danishes for up to a month, wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in a freezer-safe bag. Reheat in a toaster or conventional oven.
