Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup honey (preferably raw for its health benefits) Raw honey contains antioxidants and antibacterial properties.
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice Fresh juice is best for optimal flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger Or use 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger in a pinch.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon Optional but highly recommended for warmth.
  • a pinch cayenne pepper Optional for an extra kick.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by juicing your lemons—nothing beats fresh juice! Strain it to remove seeds.
  • In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine honey and lemon juice, stirring slightly until mixed well.
  • Add grated ginger and cinnamon (and cayenne if you're feeling adventurous).
  • Allow the mixture to warm gently for about 10-15 minutes, letting flavors meld without boiling.
  • Remove from heat and allow it to cool before transferring to a glass jar or bottle with a tight seal.
  • Store in the refrigerator and take a tablespoon as needed, especially when a cough sneaks up.

Notes

Stir occasionally to blend flavors and avoid high heat to preserve honey's benefits. This syrup can last up to two weeks in the refrigerator.
