Cake Batter

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature.
  • 1 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cups whole milk

Apple Topping

  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced A mix of tart and sweet apples is recommended.
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar For topping.
  • 0.5 teaspoon cinnamon For topping.

Preparation and Baking

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with milk, until a smooth batter forms.
  • Pour batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top.
  • Arrange apple slices decoratively on top of the batter.
  • Mix brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the apples for a sweet crust.
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let cool slightly, then serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Store leftover cake in the refrigerator for up to four days. To reheat, warm in the microwave or a low oven. To freeze, wrap tightly and it will keep for up to two months.
