Ingredients
  

For the cake

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix Plus ingredients for preparation as per package instructions

For the layers

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced Use fresh for best flavor
  • 1.5 cups chocolate chips, melted Melt in intervals to avoid burning
  • 1.5 cups vanilla ice cream, softened Soften for easy mixing
  • 1.5 cups chocolate ice cream, softened Soften for easy mixing
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup hot fudge sauce For drizzling
  • 1 cup whipped cream For topping

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the chocolate cake mix box.
  • Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • Prepare the cake batter as directed and pour evenly into the prepared pans.
  • Bake according to package instructions. Once baked, let the cakes cool completely in the pans before removing.

Melt the Chocolate

  • While the cakes are cooling, melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. Allow to cool slightly.

Prepare the Ice Cream Layers

  • In a large bowl, mix the softened vanilla ice cream with the powdered sugar until well combined.
  • In another bowl, do the same with the softened chocolate ice cream.

Assemble the Cake

  • Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving platter.
  • Spread a layer of the vanilla ice cream over the first cake layer, followed by half of the sliced strawberries. Drizzle half of the melted chocolate over the strawberries.

Add the Second Layer

  • Place the second cake layer on top of the first.
  • Spread the chocolate ice cream over this layer, followed by the remaining strawberries and another drizzle of melted chocolate.

Top with Whipped Cream

  • Finish by spreading whipped cream over the top of the cake. Drizzle hot fudge sauce over the whipped cream.

Freeze and Serve

  • Place the assembled cake in the freezer for at least 2 hours to set.
  • When ready to serve, slice and enjoy this delightful, layered ice cream cake!

Notes

Store any leftover cake in the freezer covered with plastic wrap or in an airtight container to prevent freezer burn. Best enjoyed fresh but can be kept for up to two weeks.
