Ingredients

For the Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter Can substitute with coconut oil or margarine.
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar Can substitute with brown sugar for a richer flavor.
  • 1 cup Light brown sugar Can substitute with granulated sugar.
  • 2 large Eggs Can substitute with flaxseed meal mixed with water.
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract Can substitute with almond extract.
  • 3 cups All-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour.
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda Can substitute with baking powder for a slight change in texture.
  • ½ teaspoon Salt Can substitute with sea salt.
  • 2 cups Chocolate chips Can substitute with dried fruits or nuts.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract, ensuring everything is well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips or your choice of mix-ins.
  • Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop the dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden, then allow to rest for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg. If you prefer softer cookies, remove them from the oven when the edges begin to change color. Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking can help maintain the cookie shape.
