Ingredients

  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts Use fresh or frozen chicken breasts.
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce Choose your favorite flavor.
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth Low sodium is preferable.

Seasonings

  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper Freshly ground for best flavor.

Preparation

  • Place the chicken breasts in the slow cooker.
  • In a bowl, mix the BBQ sauce, chicken broth, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper together.
  • Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken.

Cooking

  • Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is tender and easily shredded.
  • Remove the chicken, shred with two forks, and return to the slow cooker. Stir to combine with the sauce.

Serving

  • Serve on buns or over rice, as desired.

Notes

For extra crunch, you can add coleslaw on top or serve with corn on the side. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 2-3 months.
