Ingredients

For the meatballs
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 piece egg
  • 1 piece onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Add during the last 15 minutes of cooking

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, thoroughly combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, egg, finely chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until well mixed.
  2. Shape the mixture into evenly sized meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, ensuring they hold together well.
  3. Place the formed meatballs carefully into the crockpot, making sure they are evenly distributed but not overcrowded.
Cooking
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the beef broth and the French onion soup mix until fully combined.
  2. Pour this mixture evenly over the meatballs in the crockpot.
  3. Cover the crockpot and cook on low heat for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until the meatballs are fully cooked through and tender.
  4. During the last 15 minutes of cooking, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top and allow it to melt completely before serving.

Notes

Serve over egg noodles or mashed potatoes. Perfect with a green salad or garlic bread. For extra flavor, consider adding fresh herbs or using leaner ground meat for a lighter option.
