Ingredients
  

For the Chicken Fried Steak
  • 4 pieces cube steaks (about 1/2 inch thick)
  • 2 cups buttermilk for marinating
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour for breading
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying high smoke point like vegetable oil or canola oil
For the Country Gravy
  • 1 cup milk for gravy
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour for gravy
  • Salt and pepper to taste for gravy

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Marinate the cube steaks in buttermilk for at least 1 hour or overnight in the fridge.
  2. In a shallow bowl, beat the eggs and mix with some buttermilk.
  3. In another bowl, place the flour and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Remove steaks from buttermilk, dip into egg mixture, then coat in flour.
Cooking
  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Fry the steaks for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  3. For the gravy, in another pan, melt the butter, whisk in flour, and cook for a minute.
  4. Gradually add milk, whisk until thickened, and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Serve the fried steak with gravy on top.

Notes

Pair with classic sides like creamy mashed potatoes or crispy coleslaw. For storage, place leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
