  • 1 package phyllo dough Thawed according to package instructions
  • 1 apple apple (sliced thinly)
  • 1 cup butter (melted)
  • 3 pieces eggs
  • 1.5 cup milk
  • 1.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1.5 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water For syrup

Preparation

  • Start by thawing your phyllo dough according to package instructions.
  • Carefully slice the apple thinly and set aside.
  • Create a layer of phyllo dough by folding it about 5–6 times to create a thicker layer.
  • Insert the sliced apples into the folded phyllo dough and gently press down.

Baking

  • Place the assembled dessert in the oven for the first bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, melt the butter in a small saucepan.
  • Once the first bake is complete, pour the melted butter over the cake and put it back in the oven for another 20 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla extract to create a custard mixture.
  • After the second bake, remove the cake from the oven and slowly pour the custard mixture over the top.
  • Bake again for an additional 15–20 minutes until the custard is set.
  • While the cake is baking, combine the remaining sugar and water in a pot to make a syrup. Bring it to a boil and then let it simmer until slightly thick.
  • Once the final bake is done, drizzle the syrup over the warm Crinkle Cake with Phyllo Dough.

Notes

Serve Crinkle Cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce for an indulgent experience. Store in the refrigerator for up to three days, reheat individual slices in the microwave for about 15 seconds, or freeze for up to a month.
