Ingredients

For the Steak
  • 4 pieces cube steaks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil For frying
For the Gravy
  • 2 cups whole milk

Method

Preparation
  1. In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  2. Dredge each cube steak in the seasoned flour, coating both sides thoroughly.
Cooking
  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. When the oil is hot, add the cube steaks to the skillet carefully.
  3. Cook each side for about 3-4 minutes until they’re golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Remove the cube steaks and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  5. In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and add a splash more oil if needed.
  6. Whisk in a bit of the seasoned flour mixture with the oil to create a roux.
  7. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
  8. Cook the gravy, stirring occasionally, until it reaches your desired thickness.
  9. Season the gravy with salt and black pepper to taste.
  10. Serve the country fried steaks topped with the creamy white gravy.

Notes

For extra crunch, double dredge the cube steaks. Enjoy with classic sides like creamy mashed potatoes or buttered corn.
