Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour Consider using a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend as a substitute.
  • 1 cup Cocoa powder Unsweetened cocoa powder; Dutch cocoa can be used for deep color and flavor.
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar You can try brown sugar for a caramel-like taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup Coca Cola Regular or caffeine-free version can be used.
  • 2 large Eggs Egg substitutes may be used for a vegan option.
  • 1/2 cup Butter Use unsalted for better salt control; coconut oil is a dairy-free substitute.
  • 1 cup Buttermilk If unavailable, a mix of milk and vinegar can be used.

Frosting Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup Coca Cola
  • 3 cups Powdered sugar

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda.
  • In another bowl, mix the eggs, melted butter, and Coca Cola until blended.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture, stirring until just combined. Don’t overmix; a few lumps add to its charm.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Frosting

  • While the cake bakes, prepare the frosting. In a saucepan, combine butter, cocoa powder, and Coca Cola. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar until smooth and glossy.
  • Once the cake is cool, pour the frosting over the top, letting it drip down the sides. Allow it to set before slicing.

Notes

Always check your cake a few minutes before the timer goes off to avoid over-baking. If you want to impress, garnish with chopped nuts or chocolate shavings. A little extra cola in the batter can help if the cake seems dry.
