Ingredients
  

For the Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • to garnish Fresh basil leaves

Instructions
 

Cooking

  • In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add chopped onions and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes.
  • Add minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, sugar, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove from heat and stir in fresh basil.

Serving

  • Serve with your favorite pasta, as a topping for pizza, or as a base for lasagna.

Notes

For a spicier sauce, add red pepper flakes when cooking the garlic. If you prefer a chunkier sauce, use diced tomatoes instead of crushed tomatoes. Always taste your sauce before serving, and adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper.
