Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs Add one at a time.

Add-ins

  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional) Walnuts or pecans work well.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  • In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Add the vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Avoid overmixing.

Baking

  • Gently stir in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) with a spatula.
  • Scoop 1-2 tablespoons of dough per cookie, roll into balls, and place on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. The centers will still look soft.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Freeze for up to three months for longer storage. Let dough chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before baking for extra flavor and tenderness.
