Ingredients
  

Nut Mixture
  • 0.5 pound chopped pecans
  • 0.5 pound chopped walnuts
  • 2-3 tablespoons ground cinnamon Can be replaced with nutmeg if desired.
Baklava Assembly
  • 1 pound package of phyllo dough
  • 1.5 cups butter, melted Generous use enhances flavor and texture.
  • 0.5 cups sugar For syrup.
  • 0.5 cups water For syrup.
  • 0.25 cups honey For syrup.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice For syrup.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped pecans, walnuts, and ground cinnamon.
  3. Lay a sheet of phyllo dough in a buttered baking pan and brush it lightly with melted butter.
  4. Repeat this layering process for 8 to 10 sheets.
  5. Once layered, sprinkle a generous layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo.
  6. Add three more layers of buttered phyllo, followed by another layer of the nut mixture.
  7. Continue layering until all ingredients are used, finishing with layers of phyllo dough on top.
  8. Using a sharp knife, cut the Baklava into diamond shapes.
  9. Bake it in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and pour a sweet syrup made from sugar, water, honey, and lemon over the hot Baklava.
  11. Allow it to cool before serving, giving time for the flavors to meld.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. For longer storage, freeze individual pieces wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and foil for up to three months.
