Preparation

  • In a saucepan, whisk together the milk and flour. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and forms a paste. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt until light and fluffy.
  • Once the milk and flour mixture is cool, add it to the butter mixture along with the vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and well combined.
  • Use immediately to frost cakes or cupcakes.

Notes

Store leftover Chocolate Ermine Frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. For freezing, use a freezer-safe container for up to three months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before using.
