  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 piece egg Can substitute with a flax egg or half of a mashed banana for vegan option.
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt Add extra if using unsalted butter.
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour Add gradually.
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips Feel free to mix with nuts or dried fruits.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, egg, baking soda, salt, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes).
  • Stir in the all-purpose flour until well combined.
  • Gently mix in the chocolate chips until just incorporated.
  • Drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto ungreased or parchment-covered cookie sheets.
  • Bake at 325 degrees F for 9 to 11 minutes, until edges are golden brown.
  • Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for up to 3 months with parchment paper between layers. For added chewiness, chill dough for 30 minutes before baking.
